Case would become a major manufacturer of tractors, beginning with an investment in steam-powered machines. And among the company’s many legacy creations was the Case 1570 Bicentennial Spirit of ’76, a sterling example of which is now slated to join the Gone Farmin’ Spring Classic auction lineup this March. Over the years, Case owned banks, steam ships, an insurance company, champion racehorses and what was possibly the nicest home in Racine, but his core business was agriculture, consolidated in 1863 as the J.I. Originally from New York, he migrated to Racine, Wisconsin, where he began selling, then building, some very good threshers.
The presumably patriotic Jerome Increase Case was born on December 11, 1819, just 43 years after the founding of the United States of America.
